Artists, send your studio playlist to your email list

Not sure what to send to your wonderful list of email subscribers? Here is an idea that my audience definitely enjoys: send your studio playlist to them so they can experience what you are listening to while you create. Remember the 80’s anyone? It’s kinda like sending your audience a mix-tape.

Everyone knows that if someone makes you a mix-tape, that person really likes you! Your email audience of wonderful art buyers wants to know that too. They also want to know the story behind your art, and have it be relatable, to really connect with you and your art practice. Sending them a playlist is such a great way to do it. Your studio playlist is something they can tune into while they are in the car, taking the kids to school, at the gym. Tell them why they might like it and how they might feel when listening. This will help you to build on your connection with your audience.

Give your audience some notes on why you love these songs and how they make you feel!

As an example, here is a playlist I made for you, because I really like you <3

Lovely Day/ Good as Hell Mashup, Pomplamoose

This ALWAYS makes me feel like the day is on the right track. If you ever feel like there is any doubt on how the day is going to turn out, this song makes me feel like its going to be just right! I thought this would make you feel great too.

Blaze Me Up, The Geminiis

Motivation needed? This song is about having the hardest year of your life, and getting through it like a QUEEN. It was written by an amazing friend of mine Swan Davies after her ‘year from hell’ and makes me feel like change is always possible. It is pop-tastic (think Taylor, Charli XCX and MUNA), which I always love in the studio, because it ups the energy and keeps me feeling amazing. Life as an artist isn’t always easy. This is all about finding our way through it together, and getting to the other side.

Jamirobeegees Mashup, Pomplamoose

‘You can tell by the way I use my walk…’ at that Barry Gibbs Saturday Night Fever pitch… I can’t help it. I have to share the disco. Strut around the studio much?

What I Want, MUNA

Deciding what you want in life too? Well, I figure we may as well dance while we are going after exactly what we want. This song was on a playlist shared with my by Swan Davies of The Geminiis and I loved it!

Snow on the Beach, Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey

‘It’s like snow on the beach, weird but fu*^ing beautiful, Flying in a dream, stars by the pocketful.’ Knowing that the impossible can be possible. That’s our art careers. And realising that is so magical. As is this song. My goal is to make having a wonderful beautiful ‘snow on the beach’ art career something that feels very achievable for so many more artists. I think that’s important. I want you to feel like it is possible too. Because it is.

About Damn Time, Lizzo

It really is, isn’t it? How many of us have been putting off our art careers, or fighting to figure out how to have a reliable income and reasonable life while we are doing what we are here to do? Gah, it can be hard. I think art is something that sits inside us, waiting to blossom. And if you are learning, reading, trying, creating, and investing your attention into your art career, it is going to be amazing. You will get there. About damn time, right?
